“I want to get better, faster. How do I do that?” asked a client recently. He’s in a hot seat role in his company, one that’s under the bright lights. He had chosen a couple of practices to address a growth opportunity, so my answer came quickly.
“That’s simple,” I said. “Turn up the reps on your practice.”
Pros go beyond choosing a relevant practice. They know that the best practice does you no good unless you do it repeatedly. They aim to do enough repetitions of the practice so that they can do it without thinking. Pros start to smile when the practice is so ingrained in their minds and bodies that their reactions are automatic.
Until then, they turn up the reps.
