We all learned the scientific method as kids. Make a hypothesis. Test it. Look at the data. Refine your hypothesis. Go again.

Practice is the same way. Too many of us are looking for the silver bullet practice, that habit that will change everything magically. That may make for great click bait. “Oh great! The magic solution to my persistent problems!!!” But it’s not how things work in real life.

My colleague, Dave Wondra, is a nut about practice. He taught me that we have to try a practice, pause to reflect on how it’s working for us, refine the practice to make it more useful, and go again.

This is how you make practice experimental. It’s how you practice like a pro.
